Number Plate Games With Numbers

Get into that car and teach your children mathematics, by playing any variation of the number plate game. All that is needed is a few interested participants, some imagination and some traffic (not too much though). This list is not an exhaustive list, but it is meant as a start for those who have not experienced them before.

1. Sequence Game

Monitor the sequence of the numbers - are they increasing or reducing as the journey progresses?

2. Odds and Evans

If there are more two people playing, then one could count the even numbered cars and the other the odd numbered cars. The winner is the one who reaches the agreed number (say 20 on a short trip and 100 on a long trip)

3. Prime Game

Count the number of cars that have a prime number on their number plate. Can be played solo or each person selects alternate cars and gets a point if it is prime. The winner is the first to get to the agreed number of point.

4. Fadic Game

Work out the FADIC number of the Number Plate and see if there is a pattern over a long journey. The Fadic number is a number between 1 and 9, and is found by adding up the digits until they are reduced to a single digit, for example the number 684, becomes 6+8+4=18, and 18, becomes 1+8=9, so 9 is the fadic number of 684. Over a long journey there should be an equal number of cars that have either 1, 2 or 3 etc.

5. Number Game

If there are more than two people, each chooses a number and counts that number of times that number appears on plates - first to an agreed number (say ten on a short trip and 50 on a long trip) is that winner.

6. Multiplication Game

The numbers on the plate a multiplied out in some fashion, without the use of a calculator, for example each digit, like 684, becomes 6x8x4=192, then for some further mental arithmetic, find the fadic number, ie. 192, becomes 1+9+2=12, and 12 is 1 +2 = 3 alternative business records and the highest score or multiplied fadic gets one point. The winner is the first to say 10 points.

Select food items to the length of the journey and the concentration of the participants. However, your imagination, you can go and invent new games. You'll be surprised how easy it really, if you try

It seems that the important thing to do is agree on the rules before the game and, if possible, a neutral arbitratorcan help children to see why.

Novelty Number Plates - Display

Collectors and others who purchase novelty number plates usually have some kind of system for display. However, when one does not usually collect and receives a novelty license plate as a gift, look for advice on how and where to display them. Most novelty license plates have four elongated holes in them for attaching them to almost any surface with either screws or bolts.

Some public bars and restaurants have made interesting displays of novelty license plates, especially as a feature wall behind the bar. It seems that owners of some of these establishments do not entirely trust their clientele. In the US, novelty license plates are often displayed in a license plate frame, and attached with bullet head bolts, whereas in Australia, they are usually attached to a surface without any frame. The frames used most commonly in the US are silver, black or gold, but there may also be other colors.

In private homes there seems to be many different ways used - no way is really better than any other, as they usually suit the owner. The novelty license plates can be framed in either a standard frame or in some cases people use either clear or tinted number plate protectors to display the plates, particularly when they are mounted in places other then indoors. Some people simple hang the plates from a series of hooks on a veranda, and they blow about in the breeze. Other license plate displays indoors have a narrow shelf and the plates simply sit on them - they are not actually fastened.

It is becoming more common that people purchase "Design Your Own License Plates" with their own design and use them as signs. Some ideas that have been used include "PUMPROOM", "TOILET", "MUMS ROOM", "POOLROOM", "OUTHOUSE", or any wording that makes sense. These are usually screwed onto the door or onto the space above the door. The wording is only limited by the imagination and copyright laws.

Some have glued the plates to flat surfaces using products like "Liquid Nails" and other similar products, but it will be difficult to remove the novelty license plate without damage should that need to occur later.

Acquiring a novelty license plate is relatively easy and so is the displaying - it is not rocket science, generally bolt with a frame, or screw into a flat solid surface where it can be admired.

Good lighting is recommended in the place where the display is located.

Novelty number plates are made from steel and the paintwork is usually designed to survive outdoors for at least five years - so give them a go anywhere!

How to Create Novelty Candles

Candles play a big part in almost all holiday celebrations and special occasions. All the major religions have rituals which involve brightly lit candles. Candle making is as popular today as it ever was, even more so since candle making supplies and techniques have seen a boom in the last few years.

Today candles are no longer a necessity, yet most people are naturally drawn to candlelight for the romantic glow and the strong links to the past. It will be a rare household that doesn't have at least a packet of plain candles tucked away in a cupboard. Is it any wonder that so many people want to learn how to create novelty candles either as a hobby, or yes, even as a business.

Many hobbyists make candles only for their own use, or as gifts to give away to family and friends. When it is personalized, a gift made by candle making wax for example, will become a very personal gift with special significance. Any memorable occasion can be celebrated in this way.

Candle making is a very rewarding skill and the craft is easy to learn. Most local craft stores supply the tools, like wax, wicks, and the molds you will need to make your candles unique and varied. Soon you will create beautiful candles you will be proud to show off to relatives and friends.

Children seem to show a particularly intense fascination for candles and when the youngsters mature enough, many parents grab the chance to share their hobby with them. They can then teach their children the joy and satisfaction that comes with creating something beautiful with your own hands. It is a perfect way to create memories of shared experience with your children.

Many people have been able to start a successful home business, either by selling their range of candles direct to the local stores or, by getting a website and selling them from there. There are people who do both. They sell to the community and offer a website address for referrals. Either way, it can become an additional income for the hobbyist, and a lucrative income extra for the family.

Given the popularity of candle making, hobby and craft suppliers have broadened their wares to include colors, decorations, and fragrances which will give your home made candles that professional look we all strive for. Other hobbyists will also introduce you to new, interesting options you can try.

The first step to making your candles is to prepare the wax. To do that, you first have to prepare your candle making wax. The way to do that is in a double boiler. If you do not have a double boiler here is how you can create one. You will need two different sized pots. One pot must fit into the other. Fill the larger pot with water, then spray the smaller pot with non-stick cooking spray and place the solid wax inside. Then place the smaller pot inside the larger pot. The water in the larger pot will prevent the wax from burning.

When the wax has melted, you hold the wick in place in the middle of the mold and pour in the wax. Let it cool for four to six hours before you attempt to remove it from the mold. If you find it difficult to remove the candle from the mold, you can place the entire mold into the freezer for half an hour. It will then be easier for you to free the finished candle.

Only your imagination will limit the types of candles you can make at home. You will learn how to make scented candles using a great variety of fragrances. You can also use colors and decorations with an unlimited choice of options. As you experiment you will learn and soon you will have the confidence that comes with experience.

Some creative enthusiasts even make their own candle making molds by using liquid latex. This enables them to create some truly artistic candles. The only problem with latex molds is that they are generally too flexible to stand on end so that you can pour the wax into the bottom of them.

To overcome that, you cut a hole in a piece of sturdy cardboard. The hole will need to be big enough to allow the mold to slip through, but only as far as to the lip. All latex molds need to have a lip at the bottom for this purpose. The wax is then poured into the bottom of the mold where the cardboard will support it.

There have been several clever entrepreneurs, who have discovered that candles can be a very lucrative business. They have used their new skill to turn a hobby into a money making venture. They buy their supplies in bulk at discount prices. They take extra care to package their product in the most appealing way, knowing full well that 'packaging sells'. These are creative people driven to success by using their skill and imagination. There will always be people who will want to learn how to create novelty candles. What a great way to add interest and excitement to your life.
